TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - Talladega Superspeedway has permanently banned 14 fans from buying tickets at the speedway following their arrests Sunday for throwing objects on the track after Jeff Gordon's victory in the Aaron's 499.

The fans were charged with disorderly conduct Sunday and posted bond at the track's jail facilities, Talladega County Sheriff Jerry Studdard said. Track officials can't prevent the 14 fans from buying tickets through a third party.

A number of fans began throwing beer cans after Gordon won the race under caution, passing the late Dale Earnhardt — a Talladega favorite — in career wins.

Talladega officials had issued warnings before the race that fans caught throwing objects over the fence separating the grandstands from the track would be arrested.

Superspeedway president Grant Lynch said identifying other fans who threw objects was harder than he had imagined.

If fans can't police themselves, they shouldn't be allowed to take coolers with cans and bottles into racetracks. What do you think? Are NASCAR fans too unruly? Weigh in with your thoughts.

"At a baseball game where everybody is sitting down, it's easy to see someone stand up and throw an object onto the field," Lynch said. "I was looking at a section that probably had 300 people in it, and they were all standing up, waving their arms and their caps, and I couldn't pinpoint where any of the objects were coming from."

Track officials added security following a similar incident after Gordon's victory in 2004, and said they will review Sunday's incident to see if more changes are needed.

Fans are allowed to bring small coolers into the track, and also can buy canned beverages at concession stands.

Good! It won't keep them from getting tickets, but at least they did something. I'd rather them have to pay a $1,000 or more fine for throwing something. That'll get their attention... along with a week in jail.

it stops them from buying a ticket but it doesnt stop them from having someone else buy the ticket for them. or hell they can still buy them off ebay and nothing will change. Talladega has seating provisions for 143,231 patrons, and thats not counting the infield, how are they supposed to check each person and make sure that out of all those people, 14 dont get in?

I think it is stupid...What's need carding everyone who enters a track? wow talk about making parking easier. People throw shit in objection....you don't want em throwing the trash...give em a damn hot dog no wrapper...stop selling nachos since the cheese needs some kinda container. better yet maybe use a damn baggie...it won't fly far enough. Put the damn beer in a plastic cup those don't fly as good as a beer can does. Go back to not allowing water bottles to be brought into the seating sections of the track. Write down the name address home phone # of ever person who buys an object they can throw on the track.....waste of time money and gonna run off more fans in the end no matter what driver they like or dislike. If they wanna start punishing people then they should start punishing the assholes that get trashed before the race even begins and spend the entire thing yelling at a driver they don't like. I've heard some pretty bad things come out of people's mouths in front of kids to me that is almost worse then throwing a flipping peice of trash at Gordon's damned race car.

Stupid ******* fools.

It wont keep them out, and people will keep doing this crap until NASCAR is forced to do what we all know is coming. No more bringing in your own drinks.

I'll bet the policy is changed before the end of the year. The only way you will be able to drink at the track is pay $2 for a plastic cup of draft up at the counter.

Thank you retarded idiots without the capacity to control yourselves, and the mental development of a three year old whose only means of expressing his displeasure with life's little bumps is to throw a temper tantrum.

I'll bet these are the same idiots that clog the boards calling other people and drivers crybabies. I'll bet it is also the people that cry the loudest when the ban is put in to effect.

Stupid ******* fools.

"If directions to your house include 'Turn off the paved road'...."

"If you've got a four wheel drive truck with a set of mud tires..."

I think Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart are cry babies!

Hell, those things make me a ******* AND one of the idiots that clog the boards! I've been banned from Talladega and didn't even know it!

$2 a cup????? You have got to be joking.... They are going to have to make up the money they lost by banning those 14 fans. Maybe more like $7.50 - $10 a cup. But they may include the first fill up for free when you buy the cup.

What might be even more priceless?

The Dale fans in the front row that got smacked in the back of the head with a beer can thrown by a stupid ******* retard on the back row who over estimated his own arm strength!
I also saw a can hit Dale Jr's car ... and Harvicks car .... and just about everyone's car!
Retards.

The fans are one reason I am not going to any races anytime soon. My boy wants to go and I will not put him in that environment. One of those beer cans does not quite make it to the track and hits him I would literally kill somebody.
We just had the coversation a week ago about throwing temper tantrums, and if you do not like something, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about corecting it. Last thing I need is to put him in the middle of a bunch of cry babies whose crystal meth mommy didn't quite have time in between boyfriends to teach that lesson.

NASCAR is running off fans alright. Everytime a can hits the track more and more people decide to go to a football game.
