Are you wanting to know more about the driver or the actual toy car? If the car, I can tell you this is from 1991. The 1989 on the bottom is the year they made the casting for that diecast body style, but they used it for several years.

In 1989 and 1990 he drove a white and black car. Then part way through 1990 he switched to this all-black car with gold numbers. I posted about this car in this comment.

Notice the 1990 cars in that comment don't have the Goodyear decals like yours. That's because Racing Champions didn't add those decals from the contingency sponsors until 1991. Now one funny thing is they started adding the decals in 1991 before they redid the paint job design to make room for the decals. Later in 1991, they moved the Havoline and number 28 on the side further towards the back so there'd be room for the decals on the front fender. I think yours is probably from earlier on 1991 when they continued to use the 1990 design but applied the decals anyway, which is why the decal covers up part of the number.

I don't know if that's the kind of info you were looking for. My next upcoming post will be going through all the Racing Champions 1991 cars and will include this one, so keep an eye out if you're interested.

One thing I forgot to add is that in 1991, Racing Champions slightly changed the mold for their Ford Thunderbirds, and they released a lot of their Ford cars that year with both the old and new molds, which are known as variations. If you look really closely at the front of your car, it looks like there are circles molded into the headlights. I'm guessing that the center grill in the front bumper also had a grated texture. This is the "Old Ford" variation. In the updated mold for 1991, the headlights and the front grills were all smooth inside.
I did not notice the white letter Racing Champions on the tire sidewalls!
