#5 Fails Post Race Inspection: The springs for the race-winning Winn-Dixie 250 #5 Chevy of Kyle Busch failed postrace inspection Saturday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway. Any penalties will be announced next week. NASCAR has taken the front springs from the car, NASCAR spokeswoman Tracy Judd said. NASCAR rules require the left-front spring rate to be no less than 800 pounds, and the right-front no less than 1500 pounds. The car exceeded both of those spring rates but was within the 3,000-pound total spring rate, Judd said.(

NASCAR doesn't strip wins. They just WON'T do it. Although they should do it more often. Probably just the same penalty that Edwards got last week. 25 points, $25 grand.
so depending on what the pay out was, he gets to stay 24th in points and looses about half his money, but still keep the win.

Didn't NASCAR say that the springs are borderline hence why they took them for further testing? I haven't heard them report that they are for sure illegal. It sounded like it was extremely close one way or the other.

they did say that the springs are boarderline but how is that possible if the #5 failed post race inspection. either the springs are good and he didn't fail or they are bad and he did fail.

My guess is because it was so close NASCAR wanted to take them back to the lab and make sure. Once they take it apart they can discover the reason for it being so close to the border. I'm guessing that's why the classified it as "failed" inspection, because they wanted another in-depth look at it.

UPDATE: The front springs from Kyle Busch's Winn-Dixie 250-winning Chevy did meet the minimum spring rate upon further evaluation at the NASCAR Research and Development Center. Therefore, no penalties will be levied against Busch's #5 Hendrick Motorsports team.(SceneDaily.com)(7-9-2007)

They have stripped wins but not in the last half-century, they won't do it because they want to guarentee the fans that when they leave the track (or change the channel) that they know who won the race.
