DO NOT SHOW ANYTHING FROM THE MOVIE RICKY BOBBY! I don't think anything has done more to set NASCAR further back than that movie.

Other than what you posted... I dunno. You could point out that a lot of corporate types are getting into NASCAR (many of which are because of sponsorship ties). Also, the male to female ratio for NASCAR fans is 1:1. In fact, I've heard that there are more females than males who watch racing (not sure how true that is, but it's about 50-50).

I had speech last semester for one of my senior english classes. You want to try to get NASCAR more fans or get more people to watch the race.

Now.. do something really good. Tell all the advantages of NASCAR and dont say anything against it because you want to persuade people. You want to say good stuff. Where a really cool shirt and hat. Bring some diecast and show the class what you can wear of your favorite driver and what stuff they could possibly get. Also tell alot about how they are growing and how more and more tracks are being built to get more drivers into the sport.

"NASCAR: A True American Sport"

What other sport is there where your 'favorite' of the sport is really one man/woman, besides auto racing? Of course there's crew chiefs like Zippy, Evernham, Hammond and Petree and even crew guys like Chocolate Myers. You root for this sport and you root for one person in one machine on one track with one goal in mind. The goals are simple and laid out in front of them each and every race. Go fast, turn left, take the checkers. This sport is one of the very few where you don't hear about felony gun charges, drug posession and other various crimes. Occassional DUI and speeding ticket, sure, but you don't have thugs and posses and 2/3's of a team making the local police blotter. Baseball is promoted as America's Pasttime, but America's baseball is past prime. The Dallas Cowboys are America's Team (God help me for making this statement) but most of us hate Terrell Owens, despise Jerry Jones and think most football players are on 'roids or jail logs. Racing is where it's at and NASCAR is what it is. Who can go to a racetrack, close their eyes, take a deep breath of those fumes and the smell of asphalt and not feel their heart beat faster and the fingers tingle? How bad have you got it?

thanks for the advice guys, just a few comments though, this is for a speech class, so basically everyone has the exact same speech to make just that we all have to pick our own comments, as for talladega nights im still mulling over whether i should use a clip in the movie to depict the perspective most people have about nascar. thanks guys for the advice keep it coming! As far as race clips, right now im think the 03' rockingham race (the craven busch one my personal fave) and then concluding with the 07' daytona finish. like i said keep the ideas coming!!

Get in front of the class with a stereo and have the sounds of a revving engine playing behind you...look each and every one of them in the eye and ask them if they've ever got behind the wheel of a car that was just loaded. Not fast, but LOADED. You could start the motor, put your hands on the wheel, grip it tight and just play with the pedal and just feel it. You could just feel the power and the rhythm. The harder you pushed that pedal the more the car actually rocked. You wanted so bad to just drop the hammer and haul ass. Most people have never had the experience, but they have felt the power, the motor. Their hands gripping something just straight up loaded and ready to fly. Let that motor rev behind you and have a burnout right after it. Ask them if they've ever heard the national anthem followed by the thunder of 43 motors firing at once and just feeling that in your chest. Knowing that one will win, some will crash and all will give it all they have. It all starts with these two hands on a steering wheel, feeling that motor. I don't mean like feeling a little puppy and knowing its soft. I'm talking gripping your hands around a damn steering wheel looking death in the eye and hearing the reaper tell you you won't make it but you don't care because your foots on the gas and all you can feel and all you can hear is that motor.

Enthusiasm? You don't have to have my enthusiasm, Sall. You need to look at all your Ricky Rudd stuff. You need to look at any of your NASCAR collectibles. You need to look at all that and then look in the mirror. You need to think about what you're doing here. You're trying to write a persuasive speech. You're trying to PERSUADE someone to agree with your topic. The easiest persuasive speeches to write are the one's that you TRULY agree with, that you believe in. Do you agree with the idea that NASCAR effin rules?! Do you agree that everyone SHOULD watch NASCAR, SHOULD go to races, SHOULD wear pictures of a grown man on your tshirt and scream like a freakin maniac with that guy does good in a race?! DO you BELIEVE it, Sall?! DO YOU EFFIN BELIEVE THAT NASCAR FREAKIN RULES?!! Cause if you don't, you need a new topic.

Anytime, man. Just put a Ricky Rudd diecast on one side of your mirror and a photo of that Craven/Busch finish on the other. Then, start talking to yourself and when someone tells you that you need a therapist, tell them you don't need one. All the therapy you need fires up on Sunday afternoons and Saturday nights.
