Michael Caruso topped this morning’s final practice session before the first race of the Clipsal 500 weekend.
T
he Nissan driver set his best of a 1m20.204s at the end of a soft-tyre run, the time good enough to leave him 0.16s clear of HRT’s James Courtney.
“The car was obviously quite good,” said Caruso.
“We knew we didn’t get the most out of it in qualifying yesterday, which was a little disappointing. The racing is going to be much different than doing a few quick laps in a row.”
David Reynolds was the shock of the session in P3, while Fabian Coulthard improved a whopping 21 spots on his final run to be fourth fastest.
Race 2 pole-sitter Chaz Mostert was fifth ahead of Prodrive team-mate Mark Winterbottom, with Race 1 front-row starters Scott Pye and Jamie Whincup seventh and eighth.
Temperatures are expected to soar for today’s two 125-kilometre races, a top of 37 degrees celsius predicted in the Adelaide parklands.
