I'm about to plan a trip to Kansas Speedway for the first time this fall in addition to the two Texas races I go to every year (haven't missed one yet!)

Does anyone have any hints or tips regarding hotels, seats, etc.? I usually like to go on the cheap, but if something's worth the extra money to save time or if it's really cool, I'll definitely spend it.

Thanks in advance for everyone's time.

There are some hotels pretty close to the track I have no idea about availability for them since I live 15 minutes away from the track. Same with seats Ive never had to buy them so I dont have any tips on those either. I can reccomend restaurants and other places of interest in town for you if you are interested though.

same here growing up not too far from there. we went to the oct race last year and my friend joe parked his truck right against the road that leads to parking and ignored the waving and yelling of the people trying to park us so that when we left we jumped the curb and were on the road and out of the track in a matter of minutes! we sat up high in turn one and could see everything. i think turn 4 is where (if any) you'll see action. by the time they got to us in turn one they were off the gas. they really seemed to slingshot down the back stretch! the two spinouts we saw were on the other side in turn 4 too. we had a good view of the races off pit road though! last year 98.9 put on a jackyl concert on friday night and i would have loved to see that. i'd imagine they'll do it again since they sold the most tickets for an arca race ever that night. bring a soft sided cooler so you can pack your own drinks and food!

Yeah I was wanting to go to the Jackyl show. I heard Johnny Dare talking after that Jesse had been hurt while riding though so it might have not been as awesome as I hear Jackyl shows are. Hell they ought to bring the Full Throttle Saloon guys in to the speedway sometime and set up a really big party there since Kanrocksas isnt going to be using the place this year. I hear the new casino has some awesome food. Havent tried it yet myself. Im waiting til I have the extra $50 burning a hole in my pocket to get the signature steak they have there

One thing to remember, the wind is blowing 20 + miles an hour there nearly every race. So even fairly warm days can be pretty chilly! The hotels close to the track are REALLY high!!! We usually stay on Metcalf off of 435 in Overland Park, you can get to the track in about 15mins and the rates are usually WAYYY lower. Other than those things and traffic being alot less (80,000 seats vs. 200,000 seats) there isn't alot different from Texas .

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I appreciate it.

Thanks for the hotel tip. Like I said, I'm a cheap ass, so I'll definitely check those out.

You are so right about Texas traffic. It's not as bad as the nightmare in 97, but it still sucks. We just hang out, grill, and watch people search for their 'lost' cars for 2-3 hours after the race. Vegas traffic in 98 was pretty rough, too, but I hear they figured it out there. I was impressed with Talladega traffic flow with one road adjacent to the track. Even Daytona being in the middle of town wasn't bad in the summer, but Texas continues to be a 2 hour minimum wait every cup race unless you park close to I-35 or FM156.
