Well, I had another good Friday. Got two packages in the mail (and two checks for the cheap diecasts). Here's what I got.

I picked these two up from ebay faily cheap.

Ward Burton - 2003 Racing Champions Authentics (1 of 3,690) Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid

Ward Burton - 2003 Racing Champions Authentics (1 of 3,140) Caterpillar CAT The Rental Store Dodge Intrepid

I also bought these four from the Scott Wimmer Fan Store. The three RC cars were $1.75 each and the TC was $5.

But, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the third one from the left was AUTOGRAPHED even though I didn't request it.

Nice pickups. I am bummed. It seems like that when Ward drove the "Cat" car and when Scott drove it also, they did more special paint schemes than they are w/Dave behind the wheel. Last year they only did 4 and two were only made in Pit Stop versions. Kinda frustrating. Those are some sweet schemes, especiallly the Wimmer cars. Very nice.

It seems like the CAT schemes got more and more every year. I'll start in 1999, since that's when I started following the CAT cars.

Ward Burton
1999 - One paint scheme (standard)
2000 - Two paint schemes (standard and white 'CAT Dealers' car; he ran it twice, slightly different. Bud Shootout and the Winston).
2001 - Four (I think) (standard, CAT Truck Engines in the Winston, Dozer/Trax at Bristol, God Bless America at Dover)
2002 - Two (maybe three) (standard, CAT Dealers 'flames' for four races)
2003 - Three (standard, CAT Rental Store in Bud Shootout, CAT Truck Engines in Winston)
Scott Wimmer
2004 - Four (standard, CAT Rental Store, CAT Dealers, CAT Financial-actually run by Shane Hmiel after Wimmer DNQed at Atlanta)
2005 - Four (standard, CAT Rental Store, CAT Chopper at Dover, and maybe at CAT Dealers (not sure about that one)

So, it's generally 3-4 different ones a year.

I absolutely love that Cat rental store car. I hope to find one at Charlotte next month. Did Action make one or just RC? Also is the RC Authentics cars made like the Action cars or what?
RC only made that one, Team Caliber didn't make it either. The RC Authentics are actually nicer than Action I think, they come with a template and alot of detail.

I have another CAT Rental Store car if you want it. It's just the regular retail RC car, not the Authentics. No, Ward Burton only had RC from 2000-2003, except for 2001 with Team Caliber as well.

The RC Authentics are Action-like. Opening hood, trunk, roof flaps. Nice detail, but not great. It's a huge step up from the retail version, but a step down from Action. That's my opinion on them anyways. I have three of them. One 2001 and two 2003s. The 03s came with a metal body template and a jack (doesn't really work though). The 01 had the template, but no jack.

What is a fair price for the RC Authentics version of that rental store car?
There's one on ebay for $12 plus $12 shipping and that was too much for me. I bought the two above for about $25 shipped, which was a great price. I'd say if you keep the car and shipping to under $20, that's a good deal.

Make sure to post the pics when they arrive!
Except for the square profile on the tires, I really like the RC Authentics cars. They are very highly detailed and I think give Action a run for their money as far as Action/MA's Elites go money wise. They were very competitive price wise. I know not totally as nice as an Elite but given my choice, I would buy the Authentics for I think they were $69.95 new vs. $100.00+ for an Elite. But they don't make em' anymore so that is a mute issue now.
