I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem. I purchased a 1/24 scale 2007 Motorsports Authentics (Drivers Select) #44 UPS diecast. When I received it, it had hinges protruding into the exterior of the car from the corners of the hood and trunk. You could see the hinges sticking up about 1/8" out of the top of the car while the hood and trunk are still closed. I've never seen anything this tacky in any diecasts I've purchased before. I returned this and decided to bite the bullet and get the more expensive Motorsports Authentics Elite version. When I received it, it too had these cheap tacky hinges protruding through the corners of the hood and trunk.

I was able to return both of these, to two different sellers, but can't believe that this is the way they are supposed to be made. If you've seen this, you'll know what I'm talking about - guess I should have taken pictures before I returned them, but wanted to get it over with and my account credited.

I think I know whatyou are talking about. When you opened the trunk did it open all the way to the back windshield? If id did then it is not just Jarretts car. Its all the Toyotas. At least all three of the MWR ones. I havent open Blaneys yet to see if his does it. I know for a fact that the other MWR cars do it. Everyone else does not have these hinges sticking out.

I can actually relate to something I saw. as I was leaving the racing store I go to I noticed a waltrip 1/24 car in the window. The hood opened p all the way to the windshield. I think the other car did to but i didn't look closely at it. It was also a toyota.

Yes, they opened all the way to the windows. One of the 'benefits' of having the hinges above the body of the car, I guess.

There is no way to justify this on something that costs as much as these things cost. I'd say I'd settle for the Winner's Circle version, but I don't see the #44 on their preliminary list of 1/24 or 1/64.

I also ordered the 1/64 #44 Elite at the same time - I can't wait to see what they did to that.

I saw a bunch of the rice burners in the store today-- they all have the hinges on the exterior. Looks like crap.

Did anyone check the Chargers?
I checked my kahne 06 and 07 cars they both have the same hinge, and I dont think they look that bad.
If you want the hood and trunk to function, then they have to compromise a bit, wont be one hundred percent accurate.

I got a phone call back about the #44 1/24 diecast I returned. They said that the external hinges are extra detailing. Sadly enough, if you look closely at a good picture of a real NASCAR race car, they do have external hinges. They aren't as big and they are painted, but they are there. On the other hand, they still look like crap.

They are the same as the real cars, just a little larger. The only difference between the real car and the die-cast now is the teathers and the brackets that hold the hood and trunk open, like the Elite's have. They are the same hinges as TC used on their First Choice cars. I kinda like them. At least they are more authentic than the ones w/the dog ears that go back under and into the firewall. No real car has them. JMO.
