How do you know if it's a good deal?

702 Views 11 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  moparrulz1967
Good Morning. As a new collector it seems easy to get frustrated with trying to figure out if a car is a "good deal" what tools do you use to determine whether it's a good deal or not when buying diecasts?

any insight would be great.

Thanks,
slim

Like yukonsjoy said all you can do is eBay sold listing but they can be frustrating if you see someone got a cheap car lol. Welcome to collecting Diecast by the way!
Experience...

If I were a consumer I'd rarely buy a car new and just wait a year or two to fill your collection needs. Its Almost a guarantee that you'll be able to find a majority of your collection for a substancial % less then retail value when new. This has been a common theme for a good 3 to 4 years now.

Takes discipline, but you'll certainly save in the long run.
Pick and choose your retail purchases. Race wins and special paint schemes can sometimes become obscure so I jump on anything out of the ordinary or special. I bought my Dale Jr. Martinsville for $65 and now we're seeing them go for around $100

On ebay I consider it a good deal if I can buy it for 1)less than I was willing to pay, 2) considerably less than fair market value.
If it's a preorder item or something just released I think it's a good deal if I know the demand will be way more than the number produced..

I would advise not getting too hung up on prices. If you like what you are getting for what you are paying, then buy it. There is always someone out there that will get the same for piece for less and sometimes more.

Absolutely. This is an excellent rule of thumb.
just by doing your homework, look for sold ebay items. or have couple of items that is not sold yet to see what they will go for. also on ebay most of the best deals if the seller spells the name wrong, don't know what they have, or ends early morning or during working hour m-f
I just get a tingle inside and i cant stop smiling.
Ebay sold listings are a great friend of yours! Also, like drjekyll76 said, look for alternative versions of a drivers name spelled wrong, you can pick up some great deals that way, and LUCK has a lot to do with it. I check Ebay almost 30 times a day. Just scored a KILLER deal today!
