TriStar Motorsports announced today that J.J. Yeley will drive for the organization for the rest of the XFINITY Series season behind the wheel No. 14 Toyota.
The Phoenix, Arizona native ran the full Sprint Cup Series schedule last season for BK Racing, as well as the full XFINITY schedule for JGL Racing. Yeley finished 12th in the standings with a season-best finish of fourth at Talladega Superspeedway in April. The 2016 season will mark Yeley’s sixth full season of competition since making his debut in 2004.
“I am excited to get back behind the wheel of a racecar this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway,” Yeley said. “It was tough not being at Daytona last weekend, but I am ready to get back out and make some laps. I can’t thank Mark Smith and the guys at TriStar Motorsports enough for the opportunity. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get some decent finishes for the team.”
TriStar Motorsports fielded a pair of entries at Daytona International Speedway, with David Starr behind the wheel of the No. 44 Camry, and Benny Gordon behind the wheel of the No. 14; Starr finished 18th while Gordon finished 35th with transmission issues.
The organization fielded four cars last season on a full-time basis, with Starr’s 16th place finish in points being the highest. Mark Smith, the owner of TriStar Motorsports, said back in January they scaled their effort to two full-time entries for 2016 due to a refocus of goals and enhancing the level of competition.
“We are glad to have J.J in the No. 14 starting in Atlanta,” Smith said. “Yeley is a strong competitor, and we look forward to what he can bring to our organization.”
