For starters, get off Tony's back...read what has been stated in this thread...I think the point he was trying to make was that Lionel's release date/ship by policy and distribution policy are both flawed, severely, especially in the case of this car. His statements havent said anything to yield your statement about understanding business...your conments are based off of a supply vs demand that I think we all understand, or should, anyway
This is a typical problem with end of the year cars when new year stock takes priority, but this is not a new problem with NASCAR.com. They do this all the time. I have had several orders through them with exclusives (a couple of years ago they had color chromes - 100 produced only for them) and I ordered them. When they didn't ship by the expected date, lo and behold, my orders were canceled. Even when I called and told them I would wait the extra few days and gave them permission to hold my order, it was no good. There are always delays, whether it's the slow boat from China, customs, production, whatever..... no one else, and I mean no one else, has this stupid policy but NASCAR.com.

Anyone who waits any more on a diecast they're interested in, whether it's 1 of 800 or 1 of 8,000 is playing Russian roulette. Everyone thinks they can "get them cheaper on Ebay later", and I am sure some members here were playing that game. Now the car is shipping and showing up on Ebay selling for $100, and everyone wants one. Hell, in two months, it could be a $50 car because they all hit the streets, or it could be a $200 car, who knows, but right now, it's new and it's hot. The early speculators are driving up the prices. The NASCAR.com fubar has definitely helped that. The fact that the distribution was limited (which I believe is dumb) has also helped that.

Generally, when I want a car, I order it upon release. I suggest everyone else do the same (and not from NASCAR.com any more) and use a trusted dealer. In the case of cars like this, either use RCCA (at least they won't cancel your order) or the team store.

I agree 100% with Karl, if I want something I order it from my dealer as soon as the sales sheets are released to him. There are some drivers that he knows I buy every 1/24 Cup car for so he orders those without even asking me. I never wait if I see a car I want because of how the hobby is these days.

As for the #24 TMNT car, mine is waiting for me at my dealer's....confirmed as in hand a few days ago. I'll be picking it up on Thursday.

AS stated, this car was limited to who could buy it from Lionel by the TMNT people. Lionel could not sell to the dealers/distributors, but they told us this up front. There were no surprises, thats why I bought them at retail when I had the chance (with a small coupon code from HMS.com). Wish I had bought more, but I figured 36 would help a few dealers, we gave 18 diff dealers 2 each. As karl said, this could be a $50 car, or it could be a $200 car. Who knows any more. The Gordon Fantasy car last year everyone said "hell no I dont want it". Then it comes in and everyone says, "wow, I need as many as I can get"

But to blame Lionel is ridiculous, as someone else said, they were begging to sell these to us, knowing it would be a 1800-2500 piece run car, instead they were handcuffed into producing for a few select channels and wound up with a 700 piece run.

Plan B, If you don't mind. Are some of the dealers gonna get a few? I was gonna buy a few extras in case fellow members here that missed the boat would have a chance. However, It sounds like most members may have a few more chances to get their own. If that's correct, then I am gonna back off a little so I don't get caught with too many in my stock..LOL...

Thanks in advance for your post. Also if you don't mind, is your company gonna be at Daytona this summer or maybe a representative from your company. Would like to stop bye and say hello...
We are sold out of them. We gave dealers a maximum of 2 pieces, some only ordered one, then came back asking for more but we were already sold out. This item was Hendrickmotorsports, RCCA and nascar.com only. I am not sure if trackside got some but I would assume they did. The only way the dealers got them was to order from one of the above places (or the few that I had)

I bet all the people who bought them on Ebay for $100-$130 are kicking themselves in the head right now. Of course, those are probably orders that were canceled because NASCAR.com is so hosed up. Those will get snatched up and sold on Ebay rather quickly I suspect.

If I had funds available, I would order more for members here, but a major recent purchase has left me low on extra money for things like that.

DCZ, I am so baffled by this ordeal.. I just want to laugh my arse off...Literally 22 hours later, a box show up today by USPS, when I got the FED EX tracking info by NASCAR.com. of course the packaging was a joke, but the car arrived.
Better packing then this package of mine in early 2012, this was embarrassing yet funny View attachment 53478

Thanks for the posts guys. Hopefully everybody can get one at a decent price without fighting on ebay

I had that, too with one of my 1/64's! I got this big box with a 1/64 rattling around inside with nothing but an invoice! Wouldn't you think a warehouse distribution center would have smaller boxes??

Aaaaand my TMNT 1:24 just shipped from LYV. Just got the email. Sooo, it looks like I'll have two of these things. Ah well, it's a sick looking ride! I'll just display them both together with my 1:64. lol

Dubbs - thanks for the heads up on these. I bit the bullet and ordered one.
kspool - Karl, I agree with you that should you want a diecast you should preorder it. Unfortunately, and I am speaking for myself, I do not have the funds to always do so. I have a budget that I need to work with. I will preorder a car that I can afford and really want. With that being said, I don't complain when there is a car I want and I am unble to find it or the price is too high.
