PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ..... PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ..... PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
One of many reasons I rarely purchase anything outside ebaY any more. Die-cast Registry has a number of rare die-casts listed for well below market prices. Two seller's both indicate they were from a collection of a deceased family member and the PayPal link to purchase is not working on their Die-cast Registry account and gave another anonymous e-mail to coordinate payment .... talk about a RED FLAG ALERT.
The five times in over 25 years I have purchased outside of ebaY (PayPal Credit Card Only with Buyer Protection) is after plenty of due diligence of the seller. If the seller is not transparent with their contact information (name, address, phone number ... which I verify on-line and actually call the seller to have a conversation), accepts credit card payments via PayPal (I even offer to pay the 3% PayPal fee), sends plenty of quality pictures to authenticate the condition of the die-casts, commits in writing to send me the Priority shipping tracking number within 24 hours of payment (I pay for shipping too), I will not deal with them. Sometimes I ask for references and their ebaY ID to authenticate as well.
Reputable sellers / people with integrity will be transparent and appreciate the value of the sale . Unethical, fraudulent sellers (criminals) will attempt to dictate terms (Family and Friends PayPal payments or money orders which have no recourse to buyers) They will not respond or be evasive when asked for personal contact information.
Two years ago a guy (no selling history on Facebook) was selling 30 Rusty Wallace Elites for $20 each through one of the Facebook NASCAR die-cast forums with no payment information. For fun, I sent the guy an initial message doing some simple due diligence which he failed to answer most of my questions when he responded. I offered to purchase 10 die-cast for $260 (10 die-cast @ $20 each + $50 shipping + $10 PayPal Fee) with payment made via credit card (Goods and services) through PayPal ... knowing what his response would be. As anticipated, he told me he would only accept Friends and Family payment. I told him I was reporting his Facebook post as fraudulent. He immediately deleted his Facebook post. I had a good laugh. For the record, I already had all the die-cast he was offering. I was just looking for another fishing buddy ... and I found one of many fishing for a sucker. 🦈🦈🦈
On another note, most seller's do not realize seller's always have the burden of proof for delivery and condition at delivery as well. Seller's should always require a signature as proof of delivery (online tracking information is not enough) from the buyer or buyer's agent at the address and insure the shipment for actual value. Buyer's Protection of the credit card industry will always side with the buyer (their card customer) in any dispute. Without a signature an unethical buyer can claim they never received the shipment (even with online tracking information) or the item was damaged (seller only recourse would be if the seller purchased insurance which may take time to recover after the seller files a claim). I have had two items damaged in shipment and the seller wanted me to file an insurance claim ... I reminded them they had the duty to deliver to me without damage what I purchased and the insurance claim was on them to resolve with their shipper.
As a buyer, Buyer Protection (through ebaY, PayPal, and my credit card issuer) for Good and Services payments always protects my risk as a buyer.
Glad I'm a collector and have no motivation to sell ... not worth the cost, risk, effort, and potential headache on top of the continual market decline for most die-casts.
