As long as NASCAR is always on-top of the debris cautions. Those are the most important. Candy paper flying around near the inside walls are a serious danger to everyone at the track.
NASCAR will further discuss delayed caution in Xfinity race at Las Vegas
NASCAR should have thrown the caution sooner during an incident in Saturday’s Xfinity race, and series officials will discuss the matter this week, Steve O’Donnell told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Monday.
Cody Ware hit the Turn 2 wall at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and was slammed by Darrell Wallace Jr.’s car after at least three cars drove by.
O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, was asked on “The Morning Drive” if the caution flag did not come out as quickly as series officials would have liked in that instance.
“I think that is probably fair,’’ O’Donnell told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “That’s something we’ll talk about as a group at the R&D Center on Tuesday.
“When we kind of noticed (Ware’s) car, it was probably already mid-accident by the time we saw it, spinning out. In that case, I think there was a bit of a delay in throwing the caution.
“We always want to make sure safety first. If we see something, we’re going to throw it. In that instance, I think it’s fair for the drivers to say, and we’ve talked to them, that we’d like to have that one maybe to do over again in terms of how quickly we could have gotten the caution flag out.’’
Nobody was injured in the incident.
