Phillips: 225 is the target at Indy - Racer.com

IndyCar vp of technology Will Phillips says the series is aiming for 225mph in qualifying for next month's Indianapolis 500, on the eve of testing of new speedway bodywork for the car. That would be some 2mph down on last year's four-lap speed average with the old Dallara – 227.472mph, set by Alex Tagliani.
Tests of the new aero kits are set for Wednesday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Teams are limited to one car each for the test, which will try out the aero configuration planned for Indianapolis and the season finale at Auto Club Speedway (Fontana, Calif). Phillips said the nine Chevrolet- and Honda-powered cars will have about 550-570 horsepower on tap for the oval test. He expected the revised cars to lap in the 220mph range at the test, in contrast to previous testing of the DW12 at Indy in which speeds maxed out at around 216mph.
"I'd be disappointed if we didn't get to that 220-222 range, and that last little bit will come as teams dial the cars in to the track during the week of Indy and 225 is the target," Phillips told IndyCar.com.
Wednesday's test will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Official practice for the Indy 500 begins May 12.
