A big shakeup on the manufacture side of NASCAR occurred Wednesday morning with the announcement that Stewart-Haas Racing would be aligned with Ford beginning in 2017.
Should no other changes occur, SHR will join Petty Motorsports, Front Row Motorsports, Wood Brothers Racing, Go Fas Racing, Team Penske and Roush Fenway Racing in the Ford family.
Steve Newmark, president of Roush Fenway Racing, tweeted out a welcome to SHR not long after the announcement was made.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s realignment, which comes after earning two Sprint Cup titles in the last five years, could have an impact on Roush’s role with Ford.
Roush was the flagship team for Ford until 2013 when Team Penske made the transition from Dodge. Roush hasn’t won a Sprint Cup championship since earning back-to-back titles in 2003 and 2004. Team Penske won its first in 2012 with Brad Keselowski and placed both him and Joey Logano, who had a season high six wins, in the Chase for the Sprint Cup last season.
Roush went winless and failed to put a driver in the Chase for the first time.
Chevrolet has won the manufacturer’s champion for the last 13 years with Ford being the last competitor to win it in 2003.
