This popped up on eBay, doesn't even have a hood logo? Appears to be an actual piece and not a custom

That car was DNP'd, correct?

That's very odd. It look like it has a DIN too. I don't know anything about prototypes, so I don't know if they ever have any type of number or not. My first guess was an unfinished custom or something. I can't really tell anything from the photos the seller provided.

Protos have no DINs at all

There was a DNP proto of this car a few months back that sold.

No clue about this car.
Here's the render from when it was offered and DNPd

Gotcha. This one is very weird indeed. The decals and finish look like a legit Lionel car from the photos...but the missing hood decal and the fact that there's a DIN are throwing me off.
Very odd, should ask him if he can take more pictures of the car, including the sticker on the box, maybe that would shed some light on it.

Description says 546 made

Yeah I saw that after I posted that, but no hood logo is really weird
I contacted the seller and he says he thinks it's a custom...

And yet he's passing it off at a produced piece with 546 made, he just needs to say what the sticker says

If it had a proper hood logo, I would buy it for the hell of it and see what's what with it.

What I don't understand is even being a custom, who's gonna be so incompetent to leave the hood logo off. That's the main logo and if it's a custom anyways, someone needs to be awarded for their decaling and/or painting skills.

Definitely an odd piece.
This is a piece I'd like to know more about. I highly doubt a custom-maker would be incompetent enough to leave off the hood logo.
So who's a big hornish fan on here that wants to gamble? Lol
