The States of NASCAR

Which U.S. states or countries outside of the U.S. boast the most successful drivers in NASCAR’s three national series?
We here at Splash ‘n Go have often pondered this question. Although it occurred to us that people outside of us at Splash ‘n Go may have never contemplated this question, we were piqued to get to the bottom.
With NASCAR’s roots spread throughout the southeast it’s easy to surmise that several southern states would be near the top of the list of states with the best drivers. However, would there be any surprise states on the list? Would all states be represented? What countries make the list?
In order to find out and put this question to bed, we developed our own system that while effective may be unofficial. Since most NASCAR drivers live in and around the Charlotte, N.C., metro region, North Carolina would have an unfair advantage if we based it on where drivers live now or during their racing days. (Note: We said most live in the Charlotte metro region, not all.)
Instead, we used the hometowns of each driver (according to NASCAR) to more accurately determine where the best NASCAR drivers are born and bred. For example, Jimmie Johnson currently lives in North Carolina, but his hometown is El Cajon, Calif. Therefore, his accomplishments will go toward California and not his adopted home of North Carolina.
Next we had to develop a ranking system that accounted for wins in each of NASCAR’s three national series, as well as championships. Since championships are larger accomplishments than individual race wins, each championship is worth three points while each race win is worth a single point. Using Johnson as an example again – he has 76 race wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (76 points), one win in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (1 point) and six championships (6 x 3 points = 18 points) for a total of 95 points. His point total would be added to the point totals of all the other drivers hailing from a hometown in California.
Here are the top-10 states where NASCAR drivers hail from! (And their drivers!)

Did not think Washington State had 100 points but I guess they do:

Kahne with 30 wins= 30 pts
Biffle with 55 wins +1 Truck title +1 Busch title= 61 pts
Derrike Cope 3 wins= 3 pts
Chad Little 6 wins= 6 pts

30+61+3+6=100.

Although I'm not sure truck wins should be weighted the same as NXS or Cup wins.
My homestate of South Carolina getting some love.
