Giants' Barber makes retirement official Click here to find out more!

By Mark Zimmerman

NEW YORK (Feb. 12, 2007) -- New York Giants running back Tiki Barber officially sent the NFL notice of his retirement the morning of Feb. 12. In a letter faxed to the league office at 11 a.m. ET, he put to rest any rumors or hopes that he would be returning to the league for the 2007 season.

"All along I've been firm in what I said, that this would be my final season in the NFL," Barber said. "I have had a wonderful 10-year career. I have a lot of great memories, I've made a ton of lifelong friends and I will always think of my NFL career fondly. But now it's time to move on to the next stage of my life."

Barber's retirement was a front page story back in October when the news first came out, but many people still wondered if he was truly hanging up his cleats.

"This should set aside any thoughts of a comeback," said Barber. "The next stage of my life is about to begin and I'm truly excited about it."

Barber leaves the New York Giants as the 17th all-time leading rusher in league history and holds most of the career rushing records for the Giants.

It is expected that he will begin a broadcasting career some time in the near future.
