God, I have to go way back to the late 80s early 90s. I'm going to have to say a Racing Champions 1/64 Gift set. Don't have the box anymore but still have the cars & cards. As well as the display stands which was a piece of plastic that fit between the four wheels so it was raised a bit. The years ranged from 89 to 92 or 93.

The cases I put them in, I was just adding some cushioning at the top to prevent them from them landing on their side last week & labeling so I could store them in the basement in their own box. (need the shelving in the closet.) All the loose ones go up to 97. 98 was when I started KEEPING them in the original packaging.

I should take photos of them. Fun fact, Penskie wasn't always Dodge & Ford, at one point, he was GM Rusty ran a Pontiac.

Those took me back to when I was younger and I used to carefully race them around on the living room floor. Line them up, and one by one I would actually be on my knees going in circles. It was amazing how much dust I picked up from the carpet that accumulated on the back of them. Fun times. Don't think my knees can handle that abuse anymore!

It's been over 10 years now, so I could be wrong... but I believe this was my first diecast. I didn't like Jeff Gordon, but I was (and still am) in love with Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts gang. Because my dad knew that I liked NASCAR and Peanuts, I was given this car. It started the madness...

I know that one! Not a Johnson guy but I've got to have that 2004 Spongebob & the Shamu scheme he raced. Can't pass awesome schemes from something you love based on the driver.

By the way, that's a cool piece!

My son's first diecast was a 2008 Dale Jr AMP 1/64 that he bought while we were at CA Speedway. That's the car that started it all. 5 years later we are busting at the seams with NASCAR collectibles. lol

My first 1/64 scale diecast was a 1996 Johnny Benson Pennzoil transporter with two cars. I still have it, though the box has seen some wear. Bought that one in 1996. Didn't start collecting until 1999.

My first 1/24 scale diecast was the 1998 Ernie Irvan Wild Berry Skittles Revell car. Bought that one in 1999.

My first 1/24th was a Racing Champions Ward Burton 1999 Cat car with opening hood...

Man i destroyed it playing "NASCAR" with all my other cars and the thing that hurts is my mom threw it away after 6 years because it looked like junk.

sometimes i question my mom that car looked so race authentic like a wrecked car lol oh well

Well I just got my first NASCAR diecast. Its the Franklin Mint Richard Petty 200th win Pontiac. My second plans on being his Fan Appreciation Tour 92 Pontiac since that was my first race I ever went to.

Very cool thread, Lots of cool stories. Boy some of you make me really feel old. LOL First Nascar was a 1/24th Lake Speed 1994 Quality Care RCCA car, Given to me by a good friend of mine and I still display it and have the original box which is signed by Lake, First 1/64th is the same car that was posted in this thread and started this thread off. @crazyray78 Still have mine as well but it is packed away. First Hot wheels car, Which is what started it all was a 1970 Porsche 917, Lime green with blue windows. At least this is the first one I can remember. My brother still has the car and I will get it if anything ever happens to him. He bought it for me for my 7th birthday along with 5 other cars. (He had 6 too) My brother, which is 16 years older than me took me to a mall and they were holding a hot wheels race in the mall with a 150 foot track. 500 people started on Saturday, They would race 10 cars at a time one the top three would advance. When they closed the mall that evening there were like 15 or 16 people left. My car was still in the running. Sunday afternoon after church my whole family went with us to the mall. Then they only ran three cars at a time and double elimination. I ended up winning and I got a ton of stuff from Mattel, a trophy that was taller than I was, and my name in the newspaper. Coolest day of my life and best birthday I ever had. I have looked and tried to win a matching car several times from ebay. I've lost auctions on mint cars out of package at over $80 still in the package, I've seen it go for $300+ still never ended up winning one but it's been a car I've gone after many many times. So I guess it qualifies for first collectible diecast. LOL At least I know where the original car is and go look at it when ever I go visit my brother which isn't very often these day. BTW, I still have the trophy!

It was in 1992 and I was in a TOYS R US store. Saw the American Muscle 1/18 Richard Petty STP sitting on the shelf for $19.95 and I just had to have it. Then along came the Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench and its been a downward spiral ever since.

With all the money I've spent on diecast over the last 20 years I could have bought shares in a couple of small companies like Apple, Google, and Berkshire Hathaway.

Oh well! I'll know better for the next life.
